Crypto Highlights of the Year
We are about to wave off 2018. Before we do that, let’s have a look at this crypto year in review.
It’s been a cold winter for cryptos, and a year full of – some – ups and – mostly – downs.
How It All Started
The start of 2018 is hard to forget. Do you remember how and when it started? In December 2017, the price of Bitcoin more than doubled to reach $20,000. The best Christmas present ever for Bitcoin investors.
The beginning of this year was painfully promising as the market was aiming for the stars with the crypto prices soaring high above. Cryptos entered 2018 with a boom.
All eyes were on crypto. The media and everyone obviously not living under the rock were suddenly all talking about the blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.
Facebook Can’t Make up Its Mind
Here’s another thing we all remember from 2018 – Facebook banning crypto ads in January and then reversing its crypto ad ban in June. No matter the reasons behind the decisions, it is clear that the crypto ad revenue is just too big to ignore… even for Facebook.
Most Notable Crypto Acquisitions in 2018
We’ve also put up a Top-10 of most notable crypto acquisitions we saw this year. Do you agree?
- Bitstamp acquired by NXMH
- Trust Wallet acquired by Binance
- BitTorrent acquired by Tron
- Paradex acquired by Coinbase
- Chain acquired by Stellar
- Bithumb acquired by BK Global
- Poloniex acquired by Circle
- Telescope acquired by Bitmain
- Pantronics Holdings acquired by Huobi
- Earn.com acquired by Coinbase
Sad November 2018
In November, Bitcoin sank to its lowest price over a year, and the prices of all major cryptos followed. It was a sad, sad situation. Surprisingly, this drop lead to Ripple (XRP) reaching the second-largest market capitalization for cryptos, leaving even the massive Ethereum (ETH) behind.
Let’s hope for a big upturn in 2019!
The Year of the Bear Market
True, this year, we’ve mostly been in the bear territory, read, bear market. Ahem, what is ‘bear market’ in the first place? If you’re new to the term, ‘bear market’ is basically a synonym for a long-lasting decline.
In 2018, we’ve mostly seen decline in crypto prices and under current conditions, we might need some time to recover. Again, fingers crossed for 2019!
Predictions for 2019
With enough luck, one of the crypto predictions for 2019 and beyond will come true. Oh, did you miss one of our most popular blog posts with some pretty interesting forecasts? Check it out before it’s too late!
Here are just two of the amazing predictions for the upcoming year… Wallet Investor predicts that Bitcoin will reach $36,000 USD by the end of 2019. Personal Loans’ Bitcoin prediction for 2019 says that BTC will reach a price of $207,000 USD at some point in 2019.
